HUNTING DIVER
DUCKS WITH ROUGH RIDER® DECOYS
CANVASBACK,
REDHEAD, BLUEBILL AND RINGNECK
Duck hunting on even
the best of days can pose real challenges for your equipment. However,
combined with the unique circumstances faced by a typical diver hunter, your
equipment had better measure up to even more grueling conditions when
pursuing these stately birds. It was our experience with these
challenges that led us to develop Rough Rider® Decoys.
DESIGNED FOR
ADVERSE CONDITIONS
Diver ducks typically frequent larger, more open bodies of water,
thereby subjecting them to rough icy water, tidal or river currents, and
windy conditions. A decoy that is lightweight and rides high on the
water may be great for still water and no wind, but typical diver hunting
conditions can toss it around like an 'empty plastic bottle in a
hurricane.' The Rough Rider® diver decoys are
especially designed for these types of turbulent conditions. These
decoys are all slightly larger than life to stand out in those choppy rainy
conditions, but aren't so big as to limit the number you can put in your
boat. Remember, more is better when hunting divers!
STABILITY
Every Rough Rider® decoy has a flat bottom, a nice
broad beam, and 'true to life' weight to provide stability and a
realistic ride in turbulent wind and water. The stability is
further enhanced by the deep keel with its molded-in steel ballast
weight. No seams to split or sand to leak out here! The
keel will be especially helpful if hunting in a heavy river or tidal
current. And because the keel is removable and the bottoms are
flat, you have the option of placing a few 'resting birds' on that
nearby sand or gravel bar or along the bank of the river, thus
increasing the realism of your spread. Some layout boat hunters
even put a decoy or two right on the lip of their boat, just like the
old sinkbox hunters did!
REALISM AND
EFFECTIVENESS
The key to an effective rig, especially for gun-shy late season birds,
is life-like decoys. Our divers were created by award
winning competition carvers, all of whom have many years of successful
duck hunting experience. One effective tactic is to string out a line
of tollers to lure the ducks into the main body of their rig. This is
easily accomplished with the Rough Riders® as every keel has
an anchor hole at both front and back. And because the heads can be
posed 360 degrees, you won't get that unrealistic 'little tin soldier' look
so common of many cheaper decoys.
DURABILITY
Needless to say, durability is a major issue for diver hunters.
Freezing temperatures, ice flows, salt water and outboard motor gas and oil
are all potential hazards. But because all of our decoys are molded
from automotive grade urethane impervious to gas, salt, oil and sub-zero
temperatures, you can concentrate on trying to stay warm and hunt for birds
instead of worrying about your decoys. Let's face it, most plastics
and Styrofoam hate oil and gas and salt water makes them brittle with
time. And low flying divers = stray shot = punctured, leaking
decoys! Not with Rough Riders®. Two hundred
experienced shooters at the DU Continental Shoot in Savannah, GA couldn't
sink one from 25 yards, so a few stray pellets certainly won't hurt
them! Don't believe us? Click on the video below to see for
yourself!

(broadband only)
And what if a little
bit of ice forms on them? Do as Gary Bryan, current Chairman of the
Board of the International Waterfowl Carver's Association does -
whack it off with your oar! You wouldn't want to do that to a hollow
plastic decoy in subfreezing temperatures - not more than once,
anyway! Besides, why do you think we call them 'Rough' Riders?
All in all, we
think these decoys are as tough and effective as any diver decoy
available at any price which is why we back them with a Limited Lifetime Warranty against
breaking and sinking, the first decoy to ever carry such a
warranty. But don't take our word for it, put them to the test
yourself. Add a half dozen or a dozen to the sweet spot of your
rig this season and find out why more and more professional guides are
using and recommending Rough Rider® Decoys - the
toughest, most versatile, most realistic decoys available, bar none!
